The highest and surprisingly the easiest mountain to hike up in Mauritius! A 90 minutes hike brings us up to the top of that small peak. The route meanders along the ridge, up and down between the endemic trees, exotic plants and Chinese guava bushes.

We will take a break midway, offering beautiful views over Chamarel . The trail may be quite muddy because of the heavy foliage, especially if it has rained a few days before. The last part of the trail is very steep and some may find it scary, but we carry rope to help you up. Once on top the reward is worth the effort. a 360 degree panoramic view of the island will leave you breathless.

The return trip is done through the same trail with an option of ending the hike on the road leading to Chamarel, 7 Coloured earths.

The black river peak is usually a 4 hr hike but if you are planning on taking the deviation to the Chamarel ridge, add another hour.
